I'm a software engineer living near Boston, MA. 6 My professional career has been quite the journey from developer 7 tooling to infrastructure/devops to web backends and now data 8 pipelines. However, I mostly [blog](/blog) about hobbies. 9 Things like: 10 11 - Exploring niche operating systems like 12 [Plan 9](/blog/exploring-plan9.html) 13 - Perusing the "smolweb" via internet protocols like [Gopher](/blog/burrowing.html) 14 - Sysadmin-ing [several servers](/blog/starting-a-tilde.html) 15 16 Outside of tech, I enjoy playing music, hiking, and a sharing 17 a good board among friends. 18 19 ## About This Site 20 21 This site is an ever-changing hobby project where I use the 22 markup and build system as an excuse to learn and/or build new 23 tools. 24 25 In 2020, I [rewrote the site](/blog/my-old-man.html) as a series 26 of man-pages in [`mdoc(7)`](https://man.openbsd.org/mdoc.7), 27 writing new blog posts in the language and developing a toolchain 28 to [support feeds](/blog/use-feeds.html), [text-only versions](/blog/text-only.html), 29 and eventually a [gopher mirror](/blog/burrowing.html). 30 31 At the end of 2021, I really wanted a lower-friction medium to 32 blog on (akin to the plaintext I was writing on my 33 [phlog](gopher://alexkarle.com/1/phlog)).
